Quick
Fire Trivia
During
the course of this interview, Clare kindly spoke with a
lot of depth on some matters and so to finish the day, we
turned to topics of a more jocular and quick fire nature
as follows:
What
is you favourite place in the world?
I love going to my parent's house in Ohio, I love going
to Brian's lake house in Texas with his family and the favourite
place I have been is Egypt. It was a fluke that I got to
go but it was amazing though I have to say, the people were
fabulous. Everyone had these horror stories for me about
going over there but we had the most amazing time. We met
up with our guide and he said 'oh I'll take you around'
and he took us to an Egyptian palace for the day, took us
everywhere, showed us everything and he was just like the
best guide just in a private car and he wanted to take us
to his house for tea and we were like we don’t have
enough time. They're just the sweetest people in the world.
If
you could change places with anyone in history, who would
it be?
It would have to be Helen Keller, just because what I have
studied of her life. Now anyone else, fascinating figures,
Helen Keller is the one that really comes to mind. There's
definitely more but that's the one that pops up immediately
in my head
What,
if anything, scares you?
I don’t like the dark. If I'm in a hotel room by myself,
I sleep with the bathroom light on!
Tell
us a secret
Er…I haven’t washed my hair since I’ve
been here. Well it’s the hairdryers, the one in the
hotel room is no good and I’ve already blown up two
previously so I haven’t washed my hair yet. You can’t
tell can you??
[NB: Clare arrived on Friday and this interview took place
on Sunday afternoon!]
Ever
been star struck?
Definitely in fact every time I go to work and I don't know
the other actors. It's always a little intimidating to see
someone and to be working with someone that you really respect.
What
film is guaranteed to make you cry?
Pretty much anything. I'm very emotional, I'll cry at the
drop of a hat but any Meryl Streep movie will definitely
get me and Awakenings makes me cry every time.
While
talking to Clare for this feature, I made the confession
that mostly in part to the number of times she has attended
UK events, chatting to her felt like having a good old-fashioned
chinwag with an old friend you hadn’t seen in a while
rather than interviewing an actress who had appeared on
one of my favourite TV shows. I think Clare invokes that
feeling in a lot of people because of her amiable and sweet
nature and it was an absolute privilege to be given the
grace to share her thoughts and principles. At the end of
my talk with Clare, I shared the apprehension that I hoped
that this article would do her justice and I hope I have
succeeded. This feature started with the words of an influential
woman and I can think of no better way to end this feature
than with the words of another as Clare turns her thoughts
to her fans.
“Thanks
for all the gifts. I think that fans in general, I mean
I'm surprised I have fans, it just amazes me and they are
absolutely the sweetest and I thank everybody for taking
the time to follow my work.”
